Affandi
Affandi was born in Cirebon, West Java in May 1907. After the independence of Indonesia, Affandi moved to Yogyakarta. He studied art in Santiniketan, India (1949-1951) with the support of Indian Government. He also got scholarship from U.S. America to study the Art Education Method. Later he held his solo exhibition in several cities across Europe such as London, Amsterdam, Brussel, Paris dan Roma. He was chosen to be Indonesian representative in Art Biennale in Sao Paulo, Brazil (1953), Venice, Italy (1964), and Sydney (1973). In 1967, he went to artistry residency by working on the fresco for East-West Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. Affandi is a true Indonesian expressionism and abstract art maestro. His paintings have distinctive feature in which he painted directly from the tube. With this technique, he found a new freedom and more comfort in painting and as a result he produced more lively works of art.
